About Liposuction
The treatment process begins with a consultation where Maisam Fazel (Refresh Medispa’s surgical lead) evaluates the patient’s goals and medical history. On the day of the procedure, patients are administered local anaesthesia with sedation (if desired) to ensure comfort throughout. The surgeon then makes small incisions near the treatment area and inserts a thin tube called a cannula, which is used to suction out excess fat.
Various techniques may be employed, including traditional suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), power-assisted liposuction (PAL) or ultrasound assisted liposuction (VASER). These methods differ in their approach to fat removal and may offer additional benefits like skin tightening. The amount of fat removed through liposuction varies depending on individual factors such as the patient’s body composition and aesthetic goals. In a single session, surgeons commonly remove between one to five litres of fat. However, exceeding safe limits can increase risks, so the volume removed is often tailored to ensure both safety and optimal results.
Following the procedure, patients are provided with compression garments to aid in healing and reduce swelling. Recovery times vary but generally involve a few days of rest but remaining active. Patients can typically return to work and light activities within a week or two, with full results becoming apparent over several months as swelling subsides and the body adjusts. Patients are encouraged to undergo manual lymphatic drainage.
