Condition

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are a common condition affecting the legs, where veins become enlarged and visible due to underlying valve dysfunction.

Symptoms of Varicose Veins

Patients may experience:

  • Aching or heavy legs, especially after standing
  • Visible bulging or twisted veins
  • Swelling in the lower legs or ankles
  • Itching or irritation over the veins
  • Discomfort that worsens later in the day

In more advanced cases:

  • Skin discolouration around the ankle
  • Dry or inflamed skin
  • Venous eczema
  • Ulceration (in severe, untreated cases)
  • Thread Veins (Spider Veins)

Thread veins are small, superficial veins that appear close to the skin surface.

  • Symptoms of Thread Veins
  • Fine red, blue, or purple lines
  • Often appear on the legs or face
  • Usually asymptomatic
  • Primarily a cosmetic concern
  • When to Seek Treatment

You should consider assessment if you have:

  • Persistent leg discomfort or heaviness
  • Visible veins that are worsening
  • Swelling or skin changes
  • Concerns about appearance

Early assessment allows for simpler, more effective treatment.
